Family things to do in Kauai

Now that we are a party of three, it is not so easy to be adventurous. I say easy because we still do not want to miss out on things just because we have a baby, but we do our best to make it happen. We are the couple that does NOT like to sit and stay at our hotel. We look for activities to do and explore each part of our destination for the amount of time we are there. We decided as parents that we will, for the most part, do as we did before with some slight adjustments and preparation. I wanted to share some of the activities we did in Kauai that any family can do!

Go on a family Hike!
We went on a hike at the Kalalau Trail. This for sure is not the easiest hike. It is 11 miles, a waterfall and a lot of great photo opportunities. We did not make it to the waterfall because we started late in the day. The good thing is, you can turn around whenever you want. A lot of the trails have unstable rocks that you need to climb. There is a lot of direct sun and not much shade. If you decide to do this,  you should go early in the morning and I would make sure you have the following:
  • Good shoes (Nike's, Reebok)
  • Plenty of water
  • A Baby Carrier if you bring a baby
  • Sunglasses/hat/sunscreen
It is actually part of the State Park

Here you can see how steep some of the steps are. If you look closely, you can see the Baby at the top.
One of the nice photo ops of Baby and Hubby.

 Check out Waimea Canyon!
Waimea Canyon is known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. The canyon was formed by a deep incision of the Waimea River arising from the extreme rainfall on the island's central peak, and among the wettest places on earth. There is a parking lot and a short walk up to the canyon. You don't need much preparation but the road is windy so you may get a bit queasy. Stop by some of the stands on your way up! We ate delicious mango and papaya!

Beautiful Waimea and a waterfall in the back left corner

Fresh water running through the canyon.

Go to the Beach
The hotel we stayed at had it's own beach but you can always drive around and find plenty of public beaches.

Don't forget:
  • Sunscreen
  • Water
  • Towels, if you're at a public beach
  • Diapers and wipes, if you have a baby
  • Hat for the baby and Rash Guard
One of his favorite games we call "Rocket ship."

I took off his gear for the pic

Everything is for chewing

This squish face kills me!

He wasn't sure about the waves

I am sure there are a lot of other great family activties. Aside from my husband golfing, this is pretty much all we did on our trip! Here are some more pics from the hotel grounds.

Love this pic of the nakey boy! Hee hee!

This sums up his attitude! Thinks he is royalty.

Ugh that face again!!

Balcony shot with three coconuts! Hee hee!

The St. Regis is one of the most beautiful properties I have been to!
XO!
